Is there such a thing as too much meditation?
Meditation helps you experience the peaceful calm of your natural state of being, which can only be found in the present moment, which is timeless. It’s the timelessness that makes this an interesting question to answer. How much time does it take to shift your perspective to timelessness? It happens in a nanosecond, even if it takes two hours to get there! Can you move through your day practicing mindfulness in the present moment? If you can, then you are essentially meditating all day, so the answer to the question is…no.

My life is super hectic right now. How would I even start on a self-awareness journey?
If your life is hectic now, it will always be hectic unless you take even just a tiny step in a different direction. While I don’t like to encourage multi-tasing as it causes so much stress in our lives, I do love a good audiobook while doing other mundane things, like laundry or taking a walk. My favorite suggestion for a place to start is Eckhart Tolle’s book, The Power of Now. It’s easily digested in small chunks. Just a few minutes, or a few pages if you prefer, will give you plenty to contemplate. A simple meditation practice can help reduce stress and anxiety, while increasing self-awareness and clarity. If 20 minutes of meditation feels overwhelming, then try 5 minutes. And, oh by the way, I just happen to have a 5 minute meditation recorded for you on Spotify. (Shameless plug) Crystals have become so popular! Do they really do anything?
I believe the reason crystals are such darlings of late is because our lives have become so devoid of nature. BTW…house plants…same reason. Crystals are beautiful representations of nature, each one carrying a unique energetic signature specific to the environment where it was formed. For instance, the beach feels different from the mountains. Both are equally beneficial to hang out in, but they do have different vibes. Do they actually do something TO you? I may get push-back on this, but my answer is a firm NO/AND. NO, nothing is doing anything TO you, AND, they offer a beneficial frequency which can make a difference if YOU align with it. It always comes back to you, doesn’t it? How can I increase the experience of love in my life?
You energize what you recognize, so to energize love in your life, bring your awareness to the many ways you already experience love. Start your day with some heart breathing. Focus your awareness on your heart chakra. Breathe slow, full breaths from the center of your chest. Activate a positive emotion by re-experiencing a time when you felt love or appreciation for a person, your favorite place in nature, or even a pet. Then write down 6 things you love. (The number 6 in numerology represents love.) Add 6 more every day, reading the list again at night just before sleep to re-engage those positive emotions. When you experience life from the perspective of your natural state of being— the frequency of love, you naturally attract more loving experiences. And who doesn’t want that? If something is on my mind, I will often get clarity or an AHA moment while in meditation. But sometimes the answer comes through a conversation with a friend…or even a stranger in the coffee shop! How does that happen?
When you recognize (re-cognize, or remember) our one-ness, it’s easy to see how easily this happens. Our thoughts/feelings are communicated to others, not because they go somewhere for all to receive, but because we are individuated expressions of ONE consciousness… all vibrating at different frequencies, but all connected in the here and now. So it’s not surprising that the people you vibe with just happen to say something you needed to hear! If you want to go further down the rabbit hole, reach out for a session! Sometimes I get teary-eyed when I’m meditating, and sometimes it’s full blown crying. I don’t even know what I’m crying about!
Why does that happen? As you gently bring yourself to the present moment in meditation, your nervous system seizes the opportunity to cleanse itself. Tears, sadness, anger, or other emotions you’ve packed away to feel later may reveal themselves unexpectedly. Thought-forms will also release from the energy body. Observe the process without judgement-(the tricky part) and let it all fly! Afterward, you will feel calmer, more focused, with increased clarity and discernment. If you need support building your meditation muscles, reach out for a session, I’d love to assist! Winter Solstice is when we acknowledge the end of one cycle and the beginning of the next. It’s the perfect opportunity to release what no longer serves and welcome the coming of the light by setting intentions for the new year.
Start by creating or enhancing your sacred space. Set the tone with candles, lights, and music. After a short meditation to bring yourself fully into the present moment, ask yourself… What am I ready to let go of? Write it down, then tear it up. What do I want to call in during the next 6 month period of expansion? Feel the FEELING of your manifestation fulfilled. Do this daily. Eat Solstice Pie. I made this one up, but I find it very effective. Here comes the sun…doo doo doo doo. It’s gratitude month and I’d love to participate, but there is so much going on in the world, and I’m having a crappy week. How can I get in a better place so I can see things differently?
Nothing lifts a sagging emotional frequency like gratitude and appreciation, but sometimes it seems like a bridge too far when you’re just not feeling it. It could be the word gratitude that’s tripping you up. For some, it has a heaviness that brings up feelings of being beholden or undeserving. Maybe they had a parent who scolded them for being so ungrateful. If the word gratitude doesn’t do it for you, try appreciation, which has a bonus definition—INCREASE. By acknowledging what you appreciate, you are sending the signal of what you would like to see more of. And you will! When you’ve mastered practicing appreciation, try finding things to say wow, about. (The good wow, not the sarcastic wow.) For instance… Wow, I have really amazing friends! Wow, I just heard the information I needed to hear from this bizarre unrelated source! Or, the ever-popular…Wow, a parking spot right in the front! And don’t forget to say, thank you! Most importantly, elevating your frequency to love or above energy is the most powerful thing we can do for ourselves and everyone else, as we are all cells in the same body of consciousness. I am so grateful we know that! Oh, so much to say. But first, this.
The following article does not contain New-Age Guilt. Do your thought-patterns, emotions, and beliefs have an impact on the physical body? Yes. Yes they do. Candace Pert, Ph.D., wrote in her book, Molecules of Emotion, about how our bodies and minds function together as parts of an interconnected system. Fascinating stuff, that. Louise Hay’s book, You Can Heal Your Life, lists probable thought-patterns related to physical ailments and suggests new though-patterns for each. For instance, she lists hip issues as a fear of moving forward. You can use this as a starting point, perhaps by diving into some self-discovery through journaling or working with a therapist or coach. And… ever the fan of the paradox…sometimes stuff happens and we cannot access the why, because of our limited view of reality in this dimension. It may be due to group thought-patterns, or beliefs inherited from family, or, or, or. But we can choose how we perceive our experiences, what thoughts and feelings we decide to entertain in every moment. We can engage our internal world with love, compassion, and acceptance as we decode the thought-patterns our body is urging us to shift within ourselves. How can I clear the effects of being around negative people? It seems to really impact me.
Think of emotional frequencies as radio stations on a dial. It sounds like you just allow yourself to change stations. Don’t do that. I’m only half-kidding because I know how hard it can be. But it truly is an inside job. It’s all about managing your own frequency and energetic boundaries. Remember, you don’t absorb the emotions of others, you match your frequency to theirs. You basically recreate those same negative emotions for yourself, then you feel bad too. Not helpful for anyone. If you find yourself in a puddle after hanging out in a fear-based vibe, try any or all of these to clear and raise your frequency to love or above: Breathe in and imagine your energy body expanding. Come back to the present moment. This will help to clear the emotions that you duplicated for yourself that have nothing to do with you. Focus on your heart chakra and bring to mind something or someone you love and appreciate. You can do this anywhere, even when you’re in the thick of it. Go outside. Take a walk and ground in nature if you can. As you ground, breathe deeply and as you exhale, imagine letting all of it fall away. Nature loves to recycle our messes. Remember to give gratitude and loving energy back. I’m a huge fan of Epsom salt baths. They clear and reset the energy body. If all else fails, watch Brian Regan’s Refrigerator Salesman stand-up bit on YouTube. This may actually be the most effective. |
